The Research Process
Thinking * Working * Reflecting

Use of Information

Power Thinking!!
1. Work with the information - read, hear, view
If using a website, evaluate it to make sure it is reliable!

(Use an Internet Investigator evaluation form for all websites that you use.)

2. Write a "working" annotated bibliography for resources that may be helpful to you.

3. Take information that is relevant to your information need, your defined task.

......1. Working with the information.

This is a very important step because it requires that when you read, listen or view information, you UNDERSTAND the information and recognize its relevance to your information need!

......2. Extract information

Once you have read the information, you need to take notes that are relevant to your information need.

Note Web
Use Inspiration to create a note web.

Main idea - your thesis statement

Connecting symbols to main idea symbol - your questions about your thesis statement

Connecting symbols to each question - your answer to that question
The note box for each answer will contain the complete summary, quote or paraphrase to support your answer. This is the place for your supporting details! The answers will be numbered to match the resource where the answer was found.

Connecting symbols to each answer - your conclusions, opinions, quesions, or comments about the answer to your question.

Connecting symbol from main idea - your resources
Provide complete bibliographic information in the note box for all of the information sources you use and be sure to number them. These numbers will match the "answer bubbles" to your questions.

A Note Web will allow you to move notes around as you develop your subtopics for your paper. You will be able to copy and paste note information to your paper web that you will create using Inspiration.
