Welcome to the 2009-10 school year at Hugh B. Bain Middle School. Bain is a
GREAT Place! At Bain, a dedicated faculty and staff of approximately 70 adults
serve a diverse population of approximately four hundred and fifty students in
grades seven and eight. Our middle school has been designated “HIGH PERFORMING”
for the last three years by the RI Department of Education. It is one of my
personal goals to prove that Hugh B. Bain Middle School is the model middle
school for the State of Rhode Island.
Bain is a unique community school where tradition is highly valued and
celebrated. Many of our students have had parents and grandparents who have
attended Bain. Many of our faculty members and staff are also former students of
Bain who have come back to serve their community. We have a dedicated PTB
(Parents and Teachers of Bain) who organizes and runs many important events in
our school. The devotion and loyalty to Bain is also demonstrated in the form of
an alumni association. The alumni association has and will continue to celebrate
alumni reunions at Bain, including our 80th anniversary this school year.
The School Improvement Team has evolved over the past four years into a highly
functioning organization that includes teachers, parents, alumni and students.
One hundred percent of Bain teachers participate in the school improvement
process. Each year the School Improvement Team has set its goals based on data
analysis self-study, and personal and public accountability. This year the
school improvement team will be concentrating on middle school reform
initiatives and ongoing professional development. We are committed to a
long-term continuous improvement model that will incorporate reform strategies
that are proven to be effective.
Please visit our web page at
www.cpsed.net/bainhome for current Bain updates and information. Just some
quick reminders – The 7th grade “Welcome Back Hot Dog Roast” will be August 26th
from 5-7pm at Bain, the first day of school for all students is September 1st,
Open House is September 15th and Picture Day is October 21st.
It is our hope that you will share our vision and join our mission for Bain. We
welcome any help. Please feel free to call, come in, and participate. Our
combined commitment will ensure that all Bain students are reaching high
standards, and that no child will be left behind.
Sincerely,
Thomas A. Barbieri, Principal
